  Binomial name - Cissus quadrangularis
  Sanskrit name - Asthisamharaka
  Other names - Veldt grape, Adamant          creeper, &  Hadjod

       Pirandai is a edible medical plant, its climber which grow in sand, dry and hard soil. Pirandai cannot grow in shadow otherwise Its a less maintenance and fast growing plant which we can grow easily in home.

They are different types of Pirandai Sempirandai, Uruttu pirandai, Muppirandai, Thattai pirandai, Kali pirandai, Theem pirandai, Puli pirandai and Olai pirandai.
In this Muppirandai is rare and has additional benefits. 

Pirandai looks likes bones and the joint, the leaves, flowers, fruits & roots grows between the joints. 
The fruit of this looks like graps and its ability can grow in Vedlt its name as Vedlt graps and since it looks like bones in skeleton it also called as Devil's bone.
Pirandai is called as Asthisamharaka in Sanskrit which means the bones saver. 
Pirandai is pegunt in nature and when it contact with skin it causes itching, but its very good for health when it's consumed.

Pirandai has Carotenoid, Ascorbic acid and Triterpenoids. 

Carotenoid - Good source to treat Head & neck cancer. 
Consumption of carotenoid diets helped reduce symptoms of eyestrain (dry eye, headaches, and blurred vision) and improve night vision.

Ascorbic acid / Vitamin C - Vitamin C helps to make skin, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels. It also repair and maintain cartilage, bones and teeth, to heal wounds and to form scar tissue.
Vitamin C may also prevent cancer by blocking the damage made by free radicals. It is a vital antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. 

Triterpenoids - Anti-inflammatory, Antiviral, Antimicrobial, and Antitumoral agent.

In Siddha, Ayurveda & Folk medicines Pirandai is used as a supplement for the people with bone issues. 
This herbs strengthen the bones and helps in quickening the healing process.
Also it also used as Analgesic or Pain killer.
Apart from bones it's also good for weight reduction and gastric problems.
In our traditional medicine Pirandai has given to the patients in the form of tonic and Churnam.
Pirandai is also used for culinary purposes, adding pirandai in deit it good for health, it improves digestion, bone health, and cures ulcer.

In Pirandai we use only the fingers like steam part for cooking, while cleaning pirandai we need to clean the fibres in that like the way we do for Avarakkai or Broad beans.

Nature gave all the good things for the humans to live healthy, saving and using all the nature's gifts wisely gives long and healthy life.
