Kuppaimeni cooking recipes

Kuppaimeni is used in many home remedies to treat many health conditions, in this post I have shared the recipes of Kuppaimeni Poriyal & Kuppaimeni Thogaiyal. These are from my grandma's special recipes list, both the dishes are taste yummy. 
She used to prepare these recipes during holiday's  since it clean the impurities in the body we may pass stools 2, 3 times. Along with the recipes I also have mentioned the quantity can be taken for elders and kids. 

Kuppaimeni Poriyal
Ingredients:
• 1 cup of Indian Nettle / Kuppaimeni leaves (tightly packed) 
• 10 to 15 garlic colves
• 5 to 6 Sambar onions or 1 big onion
• 2 teaspoons of pepper powder 
• 1/2 spoon of cumin seeds 
• 2 Red chillies 
• 1/2 spoon of Mustard seeds
• 50ml Sesame oil 
• Salt as required

Procedure:
• Take only leaves from Kuppaimeni plant and clean it well. 
• Add 50ml of Sesame oil in a pan, once the oil is hot add in mustard seeds and cumin seeds & allow it to splutter. 
• Add red chillies, onions, salt saute until onions become tender.
• Add chopped or whole garlic cloves.
• Once garlic roasted add Kuppaimeni leaves & required salt.
• Keep the flame in sim and close it with lid. 
• Leave for 5 minutes, stir it occasionally.
• Once the leaves cooked add Pepper powder and switch off the flame. 
• Mix it with hot rice to eat. 

Kuppaimeni Thogaiyal / Masiyal
Ingredients:
• 1 cup of Indian Nettle / Kuppaimeni leaves (tightly packed) 
• 5 to 6 garlic colves
• Tamarind as per taste
• 2 teaspoons of urad dal
• 1/4 spoon of Hing / perungayam
• 4 Red chillies or as per taste 
• 1/2 spoon of Mustard seeds
• 50ml Sesame oil 
• Salt as required
Procedure:
 • Add 2 tablespoons of Sesame oil in a pan, once the oil is hot add in urad dhal & fry it till it become a golden yellow and take it out. 
• In the same oil Add garlic colves and fry it till you get nice aroma. 
• Add red chillis along with garlic and fry.
• Once fried add Kuppaimeni leaves & saute well until it cooks. 
• Once Kuppaimeni cooks well, let it cool and grind the mixture along with fried urad dal, salt and tamarind.
• In a pan add remaining oil once it hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and 2 red chillis.
• Once roasted add hing and the grounded Thogaiyal mix it well until the oil comes out. 
• Mix it with hot rice to eat.

My grandma use to give us with hot white rice, rice quantity will be less compared to poriyal / Thogaiyal quantity. 
4 big balls for elders and 2 medium balls for kids from 5 to 10. It is good to have half an hour before lunch.

Benefits: Taking Kuppaimeni atleast once in a month is good for health, In these recipes we have used kuppaimeni along with other healthy ingredients like garlic, pepper, cumin seeds, sesame oil, etc, 
•It works good at healing Alcer. 
•It helps to detox the body & it works as anti venom. 
• It purifies the blood and cures allergies due to unknown insect bites. 
• It is good source of natural deworming. 
• It cures constipation.
