What is Deworming?
Deworming is the way to get rid of worms such as Human whipworm, Ascaris, Pinworm, Liver Fluke, Pork tapeworm, Bovine tapeworm.
How someone gets worms, and Who gets worms?
In our childhood our elders in home tells us “Don't eat too much of sweets and chocolates, you will get worms in your stomach” and my grandma tells me “eat sweet nicely one day worms gonna come out of your nose” Are these statements are true? Partially yes, worms will come out through nose, but not if you eat too many sweets, Than what makes worms get inside us? The facts are poor hygiene and unhealthy eating habits.
Now answer for 2 part of the question, Who get worms? Did Kids only get affected by the worms? No, everyone whose self hygiene and food hygiene are poor. Then why its always believed that kids gets worms, it's because the probabilities are high, once a child starts crawling it happens to start putting dust in the mouth, and the grown up kids will play outside in dust and unhygienic environment.
What are possible ways of getting worms in our body?
Worms are commonly found in unhygienic surfaces, uncleaned water, plants, and animals.
From unhygienic surfaces to body
When we exposed to dirty environment the eggs or tiny worms which are not visible to your naked eyes may stick into our body, if we didn't clean your self well; It will enter via skin or other possible ways like mouth, nose, eyes, etc.
From Plants to body
As we know some worms lives in plants, it enters the flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
If we didn't clean the fruits, green leaves and vegetables well before consuming the tiny worms or the eggs of worms enter our body.
From Animals
The worms in our pets easily enter into our body.
The worms inside animals flesh will get into our body when its taken without proper cleaning and cooking.
From Water
When we drink water without boiling or filtering the minute worms or organism in the water will get into our body.
To avoid getting worms from these sources, the only way is to maintain proper cleaning habits.
Is Deworming is important?
Yes, the worms causes severe issues in both kids and elders. Since the worms use our body as a medium to grow one who are affected starts becoming anemic, sometimes worms causes risk to liver, intestine and brain.
Symptoms
The below are some of the common symptoms of intestinal worms:
°Loss of appetite
°Abdominal pain
°Itching in anal area
°Diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
°White patches or discolouration in the skin
°Gas/bloating
°Fatigue
°Weight loss
How to deworm and how frequently we can get deworming?
As per the standard of WHO in Allopathy doctors suggested taking deworming medication at least twice in a year.
In our tradition, there are some home remedies which will help us to prevent from getting worms, and also cure if we get affected.
Remedies for Curing worms
Neem Balls - This is stranded medicine in our home my mom used to give us every 3 months for deworming, improve immunity and improving digestion.
1)Take handful of neem leaves, 10 pepper corns, teaspoon of cumin seeds, 2 garlic cloves, pinch of Turmeric, Hing, and salt. Grind altogether and make small balls. For elders 5 balls, for kids below 10 years old 2 balls. Take this in empty stomach.
2) Take 10 neem leaves, 5 pepper corns, 2 garlic cloves and 1/4 spoon of cumin seeds. Crush altogether and boil it in 100ml of water for 5 mins. Filter it to drink. For kids 30ml and for elders 50ml.
Garlic - Eating garlic in empty stomach will kill the intestinal worms.
1)Toast 4 or 5 garlic cloves without oil and have it in the empty stomach for 5 days.
2)Boil the 4 or 5 garlic cloves in water or milk and drink it along with the boiled garlic for 5 days.
3)Eat 3 raw garlic cloves for 3 to 4 days.
Moringa leaves - Intake of Moringa / Murungkai keerai in the empty stomach will clean the stomach and bringout the worms.
1)Take handful of Moringa leaves, crush it along with little salt to take out the extract. Drink it in the morning for kids 30ml and for elders 50ml.
2)Boil the Moringa leaves in water along with salt, once it boiled and become 3/4 filter it and drink.
Indian Nettle - Indian Nettle / Kuppaimeni works good in deworming similar to Moringa.
1)Take handful of Kuppaimeni leaves, crush it along with little salt to take out the extract. Drink it in the morning for kids 30ml and for elders 50ml.
2)Boil the Kuppaimeni leaves in water along with salt, once it boiled and become 3/4 filter it and drink.
Ajwain seeds / Omam
Thymol in ajwain seeds kills the intestinal worms.
1) Take a spoon of clean omam Crush it well in hand, add the crushed omam in glass of boiling water close it and take out from fire. Drink this omam water regularly in the empty stomach and before sleep.
2) Take a spoon of omam add half spoon of powdered jaggery into it and make balls. Eat it twice a day in the morning morning empty stomach and night before sleep.
The above remedies helps to get rid of worms, it's good to take all the above Kaimarunthu in the empty stomach.
There are some fruits and vegetables which will help to prevent getting worms also get rid worms.
Papaya - In most of the tradition papaya used to treat worms, both ripped and unripped papaya are good to prevent & get rid of worms.
1) Eating pappya fruit or pappya juice regularly prevent getting worms. For getting rid of worms eat or drink raw papaya in the empty stomach for a week.
2) Drink juice of un ripped papaya for a week, it kills the intestinal worms. Eating cooked un ripped papaya also help in preventing worms infection.
Turkey Berry / Nattu Sundakai
Turkey Berries are good to prevent from getting intestinal worms.
1) Roast dried turkey berries / Sundakai vattral in Ghee or Sesame oil and crush it into powder, add this with hot rice eat for lunch. 4 balls for elders and 2 for kids is sufficient. This will help in curing alcer, and prevent getting worms.
2) Adding raw turkey berries / pachai sundakai in our deit in any form also helps in the same way. Recipes like Sundakai curry, Sundakai pachai is good for health.
Other natural foods for Deworming
Carrot, Pumpkin seeds, Bitter gourd, Coconut, Castor oil, Pomegranate, Pineapple, lemon and ginger, Turmeric.
Intake of these natural items in our deit along with proper hygiene will help in preventing us from getting worms.
